The best young Irish table tennis players will get the opportunity to prove themselves this weekend, at the first Junior National Ranking event in Cork. This will be a key event, as it determines the seedings for the season and possibly sets the pattern for the rest of the year.
In the Junior Girl’s event, Linda O’Sullivan from Cork, is expected to head the field again. She reached the number one spot last season and has an impeccable record in the event. Fiona Mernagh, from Leinster, is expected to be the leading contender in the Under 14’s, having seen her main rival, Loredana Tica, move up to the Under 17’s.
The boy’s tournament is expected to be a close affair, with Dublin dominating the competition, last year 8 of the top 10 Juniors were from the city. The Under-14’s could see a clash between Dublin’s Ross Cullen and Belfast’s Peter Graham. As always it’s difficult to pick a winner in the Under-12’s, with so many new faces around.
The action starts at 9.30 AM on Saturday 6th October and continues through to the Sunday. Spectators are welcome to attend and entry is free.
