Paralympics: Berry breaks world record en route to 100m g

There was more success for Ireland in the Sydney pool this morning, when Mairead Berry clinched gold in the 100m freestyle in emphatic style. Fresh from her silver medal success in the 50m backstroke yesterday, the Coolock swimmer clinched another gold medal for Ireland with a faultless swim.

Choosing her preferred backstroke for the event, Berry knocked almost 8 seconds off the world record, to come home ahead of her Spanish rival, Sara Carasella, who beat her in yesterday’s 50m final.

Meanwhile, Limerick's Sean O'Grady, who won bronze in Atlanta, was fifth in the discus this morning.
