Ireland's Gary Mawer failed to reach the semi-finals of the kayak 500m singles event in Sydney today. Mawer has already qualified for the semi-finals of the 1,000m kayak singles competition after finishing sixth in his heat there which earned him an automatic qualifying spot. However, this time around he finished last in his heat in a time of 1:49.70 which placed him outside the three fastest losers from all four heats.
