Episode Notes
Tonight on the Rolling Wave we're listening to the music of Aggie Whyte. Aggie Whyte was born in 1920 in Ballinakill. She was from a very musical family and she took to the fiddle very quickly. She was the first woman to win the All Ireland Fiddle Championship in 1954 and in 1958 she won the Oireachtas Gold Medal for fiddle playing as well as numerous duet competitions with Peadar O'Loughlin on flute. Tonight's programme features recordings of Aggie from the RTÉ Radio 1 Archives. There are some solo tunes as well as a few sets with Elizabeth Crotty, Willie Clancy, Eddie Moloney and Peadar O'Loughlin. We also have tunes from Paddy Breen from Kilmihill in Co. Clare and a song from Stiofán O Cualáin from Leitir Mór.
