On St Stephen's Day, Miriam O'Callaghan meets theatre director Joe Dowling and his wife, Siobhan Cleary.
Joe Dowling enjoyed a high profile career in Ireland as the Artistic Director of the Abbey Theatre, founder of the Gaiety School of Acting and freelance actor and director. Siobhan was a television presenter of the popular Check Up series on RTE. Fifteen years ago, they relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA where Joe is now the Artistic Director of the Guthrie Theatre while Siobhan has changed careers to become an executive coach.
Joe and Siobhan tell Miriam how they met as young actors at the Abbey Theatre, about their families in Donegal and Dublin, their decision to move to America, migration in middle life, their view of Ireland from the American Mid-West and Joe's current project directing the new production of John B. Keane's The Field.
