Story Notes
Irish people have had a long love affair with travelling to France by ferry for many decades. Each year thousands of people enter and leave for through our ports on foot, by car while sometimes towing a caravan to pitch-up, play cards and eat french bread by the closest beach.
Since this documentary was made, the ships and staff have more than likely moved on but in 1993 the staff and ship crew spoke to Frank Connolly about living and working afloat on The Saint Killian II. Built in the 1970's it sailed for Irish Ferries as 'Saint Killian', it was then lengthened by 32 metres a few years later. Over it's lifetime the ship sailed for many compaines but many will remember this ship from travelling from Rosslare to Cherbourg and back. The ship was scrapped in India in 2007.
