CountryWide Saturday 7 July 2018
People, events and happenings around the country, presented by Speech Broadcaster of the Year Damien O'Reilly.
The heatwave continues bringing plenty of smiles to faces all over the country but also bringing pressure on farming. Teagasc & Glanbia Ireland held an Open Day for dairy farmers on the Kildalton Open Source Sustainable Demonstration Farm, Kildalton College, Piltown, Co. Kilkenny. Damien was there & spoke to Jim Bergin of Glanbia & Richie O'Brien of Teagasc.
While the heatwave may be causing stress for some businesses there are others riding the crest of the wave. The Limerick based ice-pop brand, Wellnice Pops, has had a big jump in sales. In studio with Damian are Trin O'Brien & BJ Broderick, founders of this niche food business.
Pat Smullen from Co Offaly is nine times champion jockey but earlier this year he revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer which has taken him out of racing while he undergoes treatment. Pat joins Damien from his home in Rhode, Co Offaly this morning.
For sheep farmers all over the country, all roads lead west to Athenry for the Teagasc sheep 2018 show & to find out a little bit more Damien is joined from Mellowes College by two organisers of the show, Michael Diskin & Mark Gibson.
Speech Broadcaster of the Year Damien O'Reilly and the CountryWide team feature the events, people and happenings that bring colour and life to communities, towns and villages across the country.
