Episode Notes
In the Poetry Programme on Sunday 28th November, at 7 pm on RTÉ Radio 1, we hear about a new anthology from Dedalus Press that celebrates our local wonders. Editor Pat Boran is in studio with presenter Olivia O'Leary, and throughout the programme we hear a range of poets reading their contributions.
When Pat Boran put out the call for contributions to a new anthology he was inundated with contributions from all over. The poems in the resulting anthology, Local Wonders, published by Dedalus Press, celebrate the discoveries and realisations we have made over the last 18 months or so of life during a pandemic.
During the programme we hear a selection of poems from the book, introduced and read by their authors:
Kelly Michels discovers the joy of sea swimming. Áine Ní Ghlinn thinks of those who were alone during lockdown. Patrick Deeley and Hugh O'Donnell take a closer look at paintings. Jaki McCarrick imagines a different fate for the mythical figure of Sweeney, while Elaine Gaston and Eriko Tsugawa Madden Gaston find wonder in the everyday and the seemingly mundane.
