In the Poetry Programme on Saturday 6 June Rick is at Listowel Writers' Week 2015 and has news of a forthcoming issue of the US ‘Poetry’ magazine featuring the work of Irish poets.
Rick meets poet Nick Laird who is at Listowel to take part in a public interview with Niall MacMonagle. The author of three collections of poetry, Nick reads a brand new poem.
We sample the atmosphere at ‘Poetry Without Pints’, a popular event during Writers’ Week where anyone can put their name forward to read a poem.
Peter Fallon tells us about his ‘Advanced Poetry’ workshop, while Festival Manager Máire Logue tells Rick that preparations are already underway for Listowel Writers’ Week 2016.
Poets Enda Wyley and Jane Clarke look forward to reading their work at an event on the final day of the festival in memory of Michael Hartnett.
Rick also speaks with Don Share, editor of he US ‘Poetry’ magazine, about the history of this prestigious publication, while Patrick Cotter, guest editor, tells us about a forthcoming issue devoted to work by Irish poets. According to Patrick, it’s quite a coup for Irish poets to be included: ‘Dozens more Irish people have won the national lottery than have been published in ‘Poetry’ magazine’.
