Meath: The Irish Revolution, 1912-23
As part of the Decade of Commemoration, the Dublin-based publisher Four Courts Press took on the monumental task of producing an account of the War of Independence and the Civil War in every county in Ireland.
So far, eighteen of the thirty-two counties have been covered, the most recent being the county of Meath. The research and the writing of Meath: The Irish Revolution, 1912-23 was entrusted to Ciarán Wallace, Deputy Director of the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland, which is in the process of recovering, in digital form, many of the records lost in the destruction of the Four Courts in 1922.
Ciarán joins Myles in studio to talk about the recently published book.
Kay McNulty: Irish pioneer of computer programming
One of the most consequential figures in the early history of computing came from a tiny townland in Donegal. Her story isn't widely known, but her influence is felt in every piece of digital technology we use today. Our reporter Marc McMenamin has been looking into the life and legacy of Kay McNulty - a woman whose work helped shape the modern computer age.
Marc speaks to Turlough O'Riordan, online and digital editor for the Dictionary of Irish Biography at the Royal Irish Academy; and Professor Jane Grimson of Trinity College Dublin. They are the editors of the recently published book, Irish STEM Lives, which celebrates Irish people who made a significant contribution in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Roger Casement honoured in San Francisco
Recently, Roger Casement was honoured in San Francisco with a bronze plaque on the city's "Rainbow Honor Walk, located in the historic Castro District. Our reporter Yvonne Judge was at the various events surrounding the unveiling, and she joins Myles to talk about it. We hear from some of the Casement enthusiasts that came together to make it happen - in a city with deep Irish-American roots.
