On this week's programme, we’re looking at the career of an Irish recording pioneer – Bill Stapleton (1921 - 1983). He was the man behind Ireland’s first record label for traditional music – 'The Irish Recording Company’.

Stapleton established a studio in Dublin in 1947. He did work for Radio Eireann, and travelled around the country to record musicians and singers. His recordings of top musicians were hidden and unheard for decades. The variety of music he recorded gives us a snapshot of what was going on - musically – in Ireland, 70 years ago.

Myles is joined throughout the programme by Harry Bradshaw, a leading figure in Irish sound engineering, who has digitised and re-mastered the music Bill Stapleton recorded in the late 1940s. Recordings Bill made were recently issued on two CDs, both bearing the title Taisce Luachmhar (Valuable Treasures).
