Episode Notes
The County Measure uncovers the vibrant arts, history, heritage, and diverse communities of Co Kilkenny. Join writer and broadcaster Vincent Woods as he charts across Kilkenny.
From the glowing beauty of Graiguenamanagh, the craic of handball in Clogh, to the magnificnet medieval mile, Vincent takes a measure of all that the county of 'the cats' has to offer.
"To travel in Kilkenny is to travel in time. The medieval city pulses at night with the beat of youth and celebration… There's something very precious here: not just the fossils and ore from Castlecomer, the veins of marble that gave rise to buildings and the city’s name, the Three Sisters rivers or the splendour of old castles, monasteries and abbeys… It’s also the people, with their resilience, humour and sense of hospitality – and, of course, the abiding love of hurling," says Vincent Woods.
The County Measure will feature new and exclusive music by the acclaimed and aptly named Annika Kilkenny.
Writer and editor Niamh Mulvey will also unveil a special piece of writing about her native Kilkenny. Niamh recently published her debut novel "The Amendments".
The County Measure is a landmark RTÉ Radio 1 series that explores the identity and communities of Ireland's 32 counties.
