On Seascapes tonight, Fergal Keane visits the Coastguard station in Valentia Island in County Kerry. Valentia is one of the main marine search and rescue centres in the county and plays a major role in rescue efforts right along the south west coast.

Pictured are station manager John Draper, Divisional Controller at the station and Timothy Lyon who was on duty on the night of the Fastnet Disaster. Also attached is a short video of the spectacular views from the Valentia station.

We also hear from Owen Brislin about how the station operated.

Tonight is Fergal Keane's last Seascapes programme as he is leaving RTE. The programme is going off the air for a time but RTE have committed to having seascapes return to the air in the Autum.
