Episode Notes
Seascapes tonight visits the fishing port of Casatletownbere in West Cork to hear about the de-commissioning scheme for fishing trawlers. The scheme plans to get take one third of the Irish whitefish fleet out of commission in the wake of reduced quotas following Brexit and there is huge concern about the effects this will have on rural communities.

Among the contributors are fishing co-op manager John Nolan (pictured) and skipper John Sheehan.
We also have a tribute to Seascapes contributor Captain Brendan Forde who died recently, aged 90. Brendan spent 50 years at sea, sailing around the world several times and finished his career as captain of the Irish Lights ship, the Granuaile. His stories from his career were much loved by Seascapes listeners and tonight we replay one of his contributions, when he witnessed a nuclear explosion from an Irish Shipping vessel in the Pacific Ocean.
We also hear about the remarkable adventurers of Conor O'Brien, who became the first man to sail the Irish Tricolour around the world in the first years of independence on his yacht Saoirse. Historian Vincent Murphy tells us about O'Brien.
