This week saw the launch of Seafarers’ Rights International, a unique resource dedicated to advancing the legal protection of seafarers worldwide.Seafarers’ Rights International will use high level research and analysis to raise awareness of the legal concerns of seafarers, and will work to improve the protection of seafarers in national and international laws. It has been funded by a start-up grant from the ITF Seafarers’ Trust charity and is an independent organisation. The new centre will be led by international lawyer Deirdre Fitzpatrick in the role of Executive Director. She will be supported by an advisory board comprising experts from the shipping industry and the legal world.

The ISA All Ireland Sailing Championship 2010 will be held in the Royal Cork Yacht Club this weekend …….This prestigious competition invites Ireland’s top sailors, both amateur and professional, to compete against each other in the ISA SailFleet J80’s for the title of ISA All Ireland Sailing Champion 2010. The Junior competition, taking place over the same weekend, will also see a battle for the titles of ISA All Ireland Junior Sailing Champion 2010 and ISA All Ireland Girls Sailing Champion 2010.

Archaeologist Michael Gibbons who featured on last Friday nights Seascapes has discovered a complex series of weirs and dams which may date back to Mesolithic times on the Errislannan peninsula in Connemara ……….
