Listen Back This week, Miriam O'Callaghan interviews film director Lenny Abrahamson and film producer Ed Guiney. They have been friends for more than thirty years and have collaborated on film projects since their student days at Trinity College Dublin.

They tell Miriam about their first film 3 Joes and how that opened doors for them. Ed moved into making films and television series after leaving TCD. Lenny, who had studied theoretical physics and philosophy spent some time at Stanford University before returning to Dublin and starting his career in cinema. Lenny directed Adam and Paul while Ed was one of the producers on the project. After that, they worked on Garage together. What Richard Did is released this weekend and they are starting filming Frank in a few weeks time. They describe their roles to Miriam and the trust that is the key to their relationship.

Both men come from Dublin's southside and describe their backgrounds to Miriam. Lenny's grandfathers were both Jewish and from Poland and he describes their experience of arriving in Ireland. Lenny describes his attitude to his Jewish heritage.

The success of What Richard Did at the Toronto Film Festival has had a great impact on their careers as well as that of its' young star Jack Reynor.

Both Lenny and Ed became fathers for the first time in their 40s and describe the impact that this life change has had on their lives. It has reminded them of their mortality, released emotions of empathy and made time a precious commodity.
