This week Miriam O'Callaghan interviews singer-songwriter Jack L and his friend in music Camille O'Sullivan.

Both singers recall meeting in a broom cupboard in the Da Club in Dublin in the 1990s. They talk about their shared interest in music especially, in those early days, the songs of Jacques Brel.

Both come from different parts of Ireland. Jack L tells Miriam about growing up in the Loughman family who have a garage near Athy in County Kildare. Young Jack found school a trial and the Summer he was 15 he worked in the family business. That September, he simply didn't return to school. A couple of years later, he went wandering around Europe with a friend. When they hit hard times, Jack busked. He realised that he could earn a living from music and the pattern was set for his life.

Camille grew up in Cork of an English born father and French mother. She loved exploring her parents record collection and staging little performances in the living room. Later she pursued a career in architecture. But a serious car crash in her mid-twenties caused her to re-assess her life and she decided to become a professional musician.

Both performers explain to Miriam the experience of live performance.

Both recall Agnes Bernelle, a wonderful performer they met in the Da Club when they were young performers. Camille, in particular, found her a great role model as a woman who was a magnetic performer. Camille reflects on some of the pressures on women who perform and how she often sings songs written for men. Both recall a recent performance in New York. They don't spend a lot of time together but explain how they value their friendship with each other.

They sing specially for this programme.
