Last weekend the death occurred of Bill Carney, a former priest and notorious child sex abuser. Carney died at the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise while awaiting trial on 34 counts of sexual assault. He was described in the Murphy Report as "one of the most serious sexual abusers" they had reviewed. He died in his prison cell on Saturday afternoon. His death, age 65, has robbed many of his victims of the chance to achieve justice through the courts. His funeral arrangements have not been made public. Yesterday one of his victims told Joe that she wants to sit in the back row at his funeral and see him buried.
Angela Copley assists survivors of clerical sexual abuse. She is seeking information on the funeral arrangements for Bill Carney. Kevin Dwyer's brother Paul was a victim of Bill Carney. Paul took his own life, his family have continued to fight for justice on his behalf. Olenka Frenkiel, a UK based investigative journalist confronted Carney in a report for BBC Newsnight.
