Kate Flynn lost her partner Lee and friend Brendan over 7 years ago in a car crash, the driver fled the scene. It was the first time Kate & Lee had left their 5 month old baby girl and were on their way to the airport in Castlemartyr in Cork when they were involved in the horrific crash.
“He was alive for a little while in the car…. I cradled Lee until he died. But when I saw he wasn’t coming back, I had to resort to tell him that it was okay to go. I told him it was okay for him to leave, that I would love Sasha enough for the both of us….. He passed away with that message in his ear.”
Brendan was killed instantly but Lee was still alive drifting in & out of consciousness. The driver of the vehicle who hit their car fled the scene leaving Kate to hold her partner Lee until he passed away in her arms. The driver was sentenced to 5 years in jail, but was actually released after 2 years. He had had 22 pints, 4 shots, and lines of cocaine in his system that night in October 2009.
Kate was awarded a sizable sum in court. However, the car insurance company, Setanta, went out of business and Kate hasn’t received a penny. She is in serious debt & is unable to work due to her injuries sustained in the accident, including a broken neck, skull fracture, trauma to the head resulting in ongoing epileptic seizures. The MIBI were told they had to pay out. But technically because the other driver was insured, they were arguing in court they shouldn’t have to pay out.
Texts came flooding into Liveline wanting to help Kate and her daughter Sasha Lee.
