When Arlene Foster entered Derry's St Columba's Church yesterday for the funeral of Martin McGuinness, mourners greeted her presence with a round of applause.

As the leader of the North's main unionist party, with a painful personal experience of the IRA, her presence would have been unthinkable a generation ago.

Even now, with the current political climate in Northern Ireland, the gesture was significant.

On The Late Debate last night, Tom McGurk reflected on the funeral of his friend, Martin McGuinness, and wondered if his death has opened a new path towards power sharing.

Also joining Cormac on the panel were Helen Shaw of Athena Media, DCU's Donnacha O’Beacháin, Colette Browne of the Irish Independent, and Vincent Boland, Ireland Correspondent with the Financial Times.
