Caller Eimear spoke with Alison Comyn on Liveline about comments made by Danny Healy Rae relating to the issue of Drink Driving in rural areas.

Eimear was injured in a car accident two years ago in County Kerry.  The other driver in the crash had been drinking prior to the incident.

'If the car I was driving in had been going even 10 kilometers faster I'm pretty sure my injuries would have been more serious and probably life threatening'

There were strong opinions on the subject throughout the programme with a large volume of callers discussing Danny’s comments on drink driving, and debating the issue on-air with his son Jackie Healy Rae.

oth have argued that, in their opinion, it is acceptable to have a small amount of alcoholic drink and drive home. They oppose plans to introduce harsher penalties, including disqualification, for those caught above permissible blood alcohol levels, as proposed by Transport Minister, Shane Ross.
