Keith Duffy joined Ray D'Arcy to talk about life, both on and off the road, and he wasn't alone. Who better to discuss the life and times of the singer and actor than his mum, Pat, who revealed that it wasn't always easy to keep up with her three boys.
"They'd be arguing around the table and one particular day I couldn't get a word in, so I smashed a plate on the floor!"
That's one way to do it!
Pat describes a young Keith Duffy as "a comic, an entertainer. … he just kept the house laughing all the time," so not much has changed there. She recently joined Keith and Brian McFadden of Westlife for the last few dates of their sold-out UK tour. Disaster struck in the later stages of their eight week run in the form of laryngitis, and Keith lost his voice. The two Irish shows have been put on hold for now but there are plenty of plans in the pipeline, not to mention the Boyzone 25th Anniversary tour and album.
When stardom came calling, Keith was midway through a degree in architecture, and fame was certainly not part of Pat's plan for her son.
"I couldn't fathom the band first because it's not what I would have wanted for him… I was worried for him…"
Soon of course, the family were fully on board and the band went stratospheric. Pat says her proudest moment as a Boyzone mum was seeing the lads play Wembley. As gigs go, it doesn't get any bigger than that, but Keith's efforts to raise money for autism will always be highlight for her.
"…when he started the fundraising, I thought this is the bigger picture. This is why he has the profile now, to do this fundraising, and that was amazing."
