The writer and actress Sonya Kelly was in New Zealand recently, touring with Rough Magic Theatre Company's production of her play How To Keep An Alien. While there, she met an Irish woman called Sinéad – or Sign-ad as she kept getting called by the locals – who had been at the play. Sinéad told Sonya a little bit about her life in New Zealand.

"It's brilliant, like, don't get me wrong, but no one's ever going to ask you how's your mam."

Sinéad is from Clonakilty and now lives in New Zealand. "Without question," Sonya says, "the two ventricles of her heart were pulling her to either side of the planet."

Sonya recorded an essay about her for Thursday's Arena.
