Ryan Tubridy is on the Wild Atlantic Way this week, taking in some of the West's most scenic spots from Donegal to Cork.
On his first stop on Donegal's vibrant Arranmore Island, Ryan sampled the best of the island's fishing, food and outdoor pursuits. He also spoke with some of the island's 'blow-ins', including Sam McGowan from Kent, who recently moved to the island with her partner and two children after spotting a house on eBay.
"It's very random really, we were just looking at a bit of land on the internet and we came across Arranmore" she said, "We brought the children over for a visit and we didn't want to go home.
"The community is absolutely fantastic, the area for the children to grow up in…the kindness of people is unreal."
Island living is a lifestyle, according to Jim Mulvaney, who runs a B&B on the island. "You have to be content in yourself," he said.
"A lot of people when they come first, they think it's restrained or restricted because at the end of the day the ferries stop and sometimes they can feel a bit claustrophobic. But you grow into that and you understand the ferry will be there tomorrow morning."
Ryan also spoke with Daniel O'Donnell, who credits the island with giving him his first break. "In 1983 when I started my first band myself I played there," he said "It was the first place we made any bit of money."
