Róisín Dwyer and John Meaghar joined Sean Rocks on Arena to review Morrissey’s latest offering, Low in High School, and they came to a startling conclusion – Morrissey is upbeat now.
So much so, John told Sean, that Morrissey has gained a new fan in his daughter, who loves the track “Spent the day in bed”.
“I’m not sure he’s thinking of 5-year-old schoolchildren but my daughter, who’s that age, is driving me demented in the car wanting to hear that song over and over and over again and is singing it back…it’s relentlessly upbeat.”
John does accept that while this particular track is a little “Un-Morrissey”, there are others that are “cliché-level Morrissey”. Róisín deemed the album a “mixed bag”, albeit an interesting one.
“I think it’s very adventurous sonically. There’s a lot going on in the songs…There’s parts of this album where he is really on form and you see glimpses of the artist he can be.”
