The beauty of the Irish countryside is being blighted by rubbish and waste dumped late at night.

Mullagh farmer Jane Shackleton tweeted recently about this very problem, and it was picked up by the Countrywide team.  Damien spoke with Jane about her most recent experience of it.

‘There was a huge amount of dumped rubbish and black bin bags of domestic waste, which is never nice to see on a Sunday morning’

And it's not the first time that the County Council in Cavan has had to be called in to clean up other peoples mess.

‘You name it, we’ve had it dumped on this road.  Mattresses, TV’s, Computers.. the lot.’

Darragh McCullough from RTÉ Television’s Ear to the Ground also joined the programme and put it simply.

‘If you’ve got road frontage it’s an invitation basically for all unscrupulous types to dump everything from nappies to Nintendo's’

Darragh revealed that there is a way to help.  A smartphone app for the 'See It, Say It' campaign is allowing people affected by illegal dumping to report locations allowing local authorities to address the problem.
