If you need some egging on to get creative with the kids this Easter, Elaine Devlin shared her top tips for family fun on Today with Sean O'Rourke. Elaine says Easter activities usually fall into two categories, chocolate-related or otherwise, and she's brimming with ideas for both.
When it comes to the traditional Easter egg hunt, there are plenty of options around the country to choose from including Brigit's Garden in Galway, Limerick's Easter Festival in the Milk Market and one in Athlone Castle where your knowledge of history earns you eggs.
If you're looking to get in on the chocolate making action yourself, the Chocolate Warehouse in Dublin's Walkinstown has got you covered.
"You can go there and meet the Easter bunny and things like that but you also can do chocolate workshops and you can learn all about chocolate and how to make your own bars and obviously this is for adults as well as children."
For research purposes, Elaine rolled up her sleeves and got busy dying some eggs herself.
"It's very easy. You boil up your eggs and when they're finished boiling, you put the individual eggs into different bowls, pour hot water over it, splash of vinegar, splash of food colouring… They're boiled eggs and you can eat them."
Elaine also recommends the petting zoo at the MAC in Belfast or Leahy's Open farm in Cork for some up-close-and-personal animal encounters. For the whimsical, she suggests the "spectacular" Mad Hatter's Tea Party at Dublin's Deer Park.
"It's an afternoon tea party but they've got massive props, big chairs, the characters from Alice in Wonderland are all walking around. There's a teacup ride, giant chess, croquet and kids themselves can dress up."
Sports and arts and crafts camps are all widely available around the country but for those looking for something a little more adventurous, Elaine recommends Dublinia's VikingFest 2018.
"It's not all fluffy bunnies and it's not all chocolate, the Vikings are coming to Dublin this weekend! There's going to be longships and visiting warriors at Wood Quay and there's going to be a full Viking longship on display and there's going to be talks and swords and demonstrations of Viking fighting."
