Senator Frances Black joined Sean O'Rourke to give him her take on the decision to remove the provision to include warnings about the link between alcohol consumption and cancer from alcohol labels. Frances told Sean that while she remains "very hopeful that this amendment will get through", the current situation is discouraging.
"There's no doubt about it. We need to have cancer warnings on alcohol. There's no doubt in my mind. The people of Ireland need to know that alcohol causes cancer, it's as simple as that.
Frances believes that this is part of a wider problem.
"3 people every day die from an alcohol-related issue, that's the reality here. We have a huge problem with alcohol in Ireland. It's getting worse with our young people. And the reality is that we need to start looking at and changing our culture…I'm not talking about addiction. I'm talking about problem alcohol use and the harm it's causing to the people of this country."
