Actor, singer and songwriter Josh Groban joined Kathryn Thomas on the line on The Ray D'Arcy Show ahead of his 3Arena gig this Sunday to talk about fond memories, a changing fanbase and the health benefits of Guinness.

Kathryn asked if Dublin locals might expect to see Josh patronising a pub or two during his visit. And the answer is a resounding yes. After the gig, of course. And it's really a professional move on his part.

"Guinness gives you strength. You know, it's good for the voice, good for the vocal cords. A little social lubricant makes you a little more confident with the high notes too."

As much as Irish people like a singsong, does he live in fear of being dragged up to sing in Dublin's pubs when he's here? Not so much.

"I think people know my name and I think they know my voice, to a certain degree. But I think from a facial recognition standpoint, I can still blend in pretty easily. Which I actually prefer."

How and why he is recognised is changing, Josh told Kathryn. As he moves into doing more acting and theatre performances, he's been encountering fans who have no idea how successful he is as a singer.

"It's the strangest thing. You spend so much time making music and singing and you think you're known for that and then you know, you go and do a Broadway play and suddenly you have Broadway fans that know you only from that and then you go and do a TV show and suddenly you have, you know, crime procedural TV fans that know you from that. Then they find out later you do a bit of singing and they're like, 'Good for you. I hope that works out for you'."
