German Lidl supermarket chain opens around Ireland This morning, the German supermarket chain Lidl will open seven new stores around the country with the promise of cheaper prices and more convenient shopping. Already there are indications that major stores such as Tesco and Dunnes will respond to the challenge by lowering their prices. So, does this signal a supermarket price war, a prospect that has horrified the small grocery owners?
