Notes
You might remember that in March this year we ran a competition in conjunction with the Dutch Embassy in Ireland to name a tulip, in honour of our lovely island. The winner, Mary McClure from Limerick, christened the tulip, Molly Bloom (Molly Bloom being of course a character from James Joyce’s Ulysses).
Following on from that competition, the Dutch embassy had a bit of a brain wave. They thought "wouldn’t it be a great idea to have a portrait of James Joyce in tulips?". Yes, the great man’s portrait in flower!
Earlier today the new Dutch Ambassador to Ireland, His Excellency Paul Schellekens, planted the first bulb in the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin.
Today we are delighted to welcome His Excellency into studio. The new Dutch Ambassador to Ireland only presented his Letters of Credence to President Higgins last month - we find out his impressions of Ireland, and learn a bit more about the Netherlands. And Dermot O’Neill went along to this afternoon’s event at the Botanic Gardens... For more information about the Molly Bloom tulip, and the floral portrait of James Joyce, visit www.rte.ie/mooney.
