Survey predicts Greater Dublin population reaching 2m by 2,011
The population of the Republic is growing at the rate of 1,000, and two thirds of growth is taking place in the greater Dublin area, or GDA, comprising Dublin, Meath, Kildare and Wicklow. The recently published Strategic Planning Guidelines for the GDA project a population of 1.545 to 1.650 million by the year 2,011, which represents an increase of 10% to 17% above the 1996 Census. However, these projections are wrong, according to chartered surveyor Brian Hughes.
