Ambient Orbit returns to airwaves this Sunday night from midnight and to mark its eight series on RTÉ lyric fm we have a special show recorded live last January at the Sliver of Light Festival in Doolin in Co. Clare.
On the day we were joined by musicians JFDR, Noah Synder, Dan Coyne and Jesse Russell who responded to environmental field recordings captured in the locality.
The new 12-part series will broadcast on Sunday nights at midnight with a repeat on Friday morning at 06:00. The show is a non-presenter led specialist music programme which began in October 2022. It occupies a unique space in Irish radio with its beautifully crafted mix of ambient sounds and field recordings from the Irish landscape allowing the listener to reset and escape the noise of everyday life.
Series eight will feature field recordings from new locations around the country, capturing the wonderful variety of wildlife and landscapes in Ireland alongside the best new ambient sounds from Irish artists and beyond. There will also be specially curated episodes with the music selected by a guest artist or musician.
The new series will culminate with a live broadcast to mark the summer solstice on June 21st.
