The Association for International Broadcasting International Media Excellence Awards (the AIBs) - celebrating the world's best factual content - took place on Friday the 22nd of November in Savoy Place in London. The Gold Award in the sustainability category went to the Lyric Feature mini-series We Only Want the Earth which was praised by judges for offering "a unique take on solutions through a calm and reflective piece".

The programme presented by Jonathan Grimes examined how Irish contemporary music composers have responded to the climate crisis through their work.

Presenter Jonathan Grimes writes: "I'm grateful and honoured for the recognition from the AIBs for this series, and thrilled that through this award the series will reach a bigger audience. Thanks to my co-producer Helen Shaw for all her invaluable support and guidance, Lyric Feature producer Eoin O Kelly for commissioning the series, and all my colleagues in the Contemporary Music Centre."

We Only Want the Earth was presented and produced by Jonathan Grimes of the Contemporary Music Centre with Helen Shaw of Athena Media. The series producer is Eoin O Kelly and the production coordinators are Michael O'Kane and Lily Collins. The programme was made with funding form Coimisiún na Meán’s Sound and Vision funding scheme and the RTÉ IRP unit.

About The Lyric Feature: We Only Want The Earth

This two-part documentary series, presented by Jonathan Grimes of the Contemporary Music Centre, explores how Irish composers are responding to the climate and biodiversity crisis through their work. Can music inspire us to take ownership of what's happening and help us imagine and shape a better future for all? Journeying across Ireland by bike, Jonathan meets with composers to chat about how they are engaging with the climate emergency He hears how their music is seeking to sound the transformative changes we’re witnessing and ultimately give voice to hope.

The series features music from Irish and Irish based musicians, composers and sound artists including Judith Ring, Gráinne Mulvey, Nick Roth, Jennifer Walshe, Sebastian Adams, Ian Wilson, Robert Coleman, Natalia Beylis, Éna Brennan and Karen Power.
