From Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, Niall grew up in a household full of music. He and all of his siblings were taught to play various instruments by their father, Danny. As a child, he played clarinet in the local youth band, Banna Chluain Meala, and continues to be involved in the running of the group. Describing himself as a "happy amateur" musician, Niall still plays in the adult community group, the Clonmel Concert Band.
With a lifelong passion for broadcasting, Niall made his debut on pirate radio at the age of 15 and has worked on air, in various formats, ever since. Niall joined RTÉ in 1995 as a continuity announcer and presenter on RTÉ Radio 1 and FM3. He also spent a decade as a radio and television newscaster at RTÉ News.
Niall's is one of the original voices heard on RTÉ lyric fm and his passion for bringing great music to Ireland is as strong as ever.
