Ellen started her working life as a flute player with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra and countless other chamber ensembles. Her interest in jazz and improvised music led her over to the dark side, and she began composing scores for theatre, dance, radio and television productions.
She began broadcasting with RTÉ lyric fm in 2004, on the traditional music programme Grace Notes. Since then she has made many features and documentaries, and currently presents the eclectic late night programme, Vespertine.
