All this week on Classic Drive, Lorcan will feature music from the NDR Philharmonie's latest recording, 'Emilie Mayer - Symphonies 4 & 6.'
The NDR Philharmonie and conductor Jan Willem de Vriend continue their series of recordings of the symphonies of Emilie Mayer, a Prussian composer whose music won her acclaim throughout Europe in the mid-19th century. While her music, along with that of many of her female contemporaries, has fallen into obscurity, these two symphonies make a powerful case for re-evaluation. Orchestrator Andreas N. Tarkmann's reconstruction of her Symphony No. 4, known only from a piano reduction, brings a fascinating and original work to light.
