MOVIES AND MUSICALS WITH AEDÍN GORMLEY

Frighteningly good film music this afternoon as it's Aedín's Halloween special, filled with villains and vampires, witches and wizards! Watch out for Jaws and the Joker! Bernard Herrmann is in full horror mode with his scores for Psycho and Cape Fear. Songs from Wicked, the Wizard of Oz and Sweeney Todd and we'll meet with our favourite Disney baddies too, including Cruella de Vil in 101 Dalmatians and Ursula in The Little Mermaid. Join Aedín for three hours of Halloween music, if you dare!

OPERA NIGHT WITH PAUL HERRIOTT

Irish National Opera presents Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore

Donizetti's heartwarming comedy features some wonderful bel canto singing as the spunky landowner and the hapless peasant search for love. Radiant soprano Claudia Boyle sings the role of Adina, trading barbs and embraces with tenor Duke Kim as Nemorino. John Molloy as the outlandish rogue 'doctor' Dulcamara. Baritone Gianluca Margheri is Belcore and soprano Deirdre Higgins is Adina's friend Giannetta. L'elisir d'amore is conducted by Erina Yashima and directed by Cal McCrystal.

A Sonic Arctic Return

Composer and sound recordist, Karen Power and her microphones revisit the remote, magnetic spaces of the Arctic which she first visited and recorded more than a decade previously. In the company of a crew of writers, painters, videographers, sound artists, sculptors, photographers, archaeologists, researchers and scientists, Power explores the meanings, the messages, and the soundworld of this landscape which is rapidly changing as a consequence of manmade climate change.

THE FULL SCORE WITH LIZ NOLAN

Our Full Score concert comes from the Galway Early Music Festival last summer. Resurgam is joined by the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble, Malcolm Proud (organ) and Kristiina Watt (theorbo/lute) to perform Palestrina's music for the three great Roman basilicas of St Peter, St John Lateran and St Mary Major, including sonorous twelve-part motets with voices and instruments together. Also included are the 'Vergine' spiritual madrigals and instrumental ricercare.

AEDÍN IN THE AFTERNOON

We mark the release today of violinist Aoife Ní Bhriain and pianist Cormac McCarthy's new album Cosán Casta. It blends Irish traditional music with classical, jazz, and contemporary influences. The two chart a compelling sonic path through a shared musical heritage, transformed through their own creative lens. Plus, the Fidelio Trio, The Chatham Saxophone Quartet and songs from Paul Simon, Bobby Darin, Niall McCabe and Blossom Dearie.
