OPERA NIGHT WITH PAUL HERRIOTT

The Vienna State Opera presents Verdi's Don Carlo

Tonight, Paul Herriott brings you Verdi's monumental drama courtesy of the Vienna Staatsoper. Don Carlo (Joshua Guerrero), the Spanish crown prince, and Elizabeth of Valois (soprano Asmik Grigorian), daughter of the King of France, fall in love, only to be torn apart by international politics when Carlo's father, King Philip II (bass Roberto Tagliavini), decides to marry Elizabeth himself. Carlo's friend, Rodrigo (baritone Etienne Dupuis), plays a dangerous game, balancing his political aims with the trust of his monarch. And when the beautiful Princess Eboli (mezzo soprano, Eve-Maud Hubeaux) discovers her love for Don Carlo is not returned, her revenge terribly backfires. Philippe Jordan conducts the Vienna State opera orchestra and chorus.
