OPERA NIGHT WITH PAUL HERRIOTT

The Vienna State Opera presents The Magic Flute by Mozart

In tonight's production of Mozart's fantastical opera Prince Tamino sung by tenor Julian Prégardien promises the Queen of the Night, soprano Serena Sáenz, that he will rescue her daughter Pamina (soprano Slávka Zámecníková) from the enchanter Sarastro (bass Georg Zeppenfeld). He begins his quest, accompanied by the bird-catcher Papageno (baritone Ludwig Mittelhammer) - but all is not as it seems...Tamino and Papageno discover Sarastro is a wise and kind leader. They undergo three ordeals. Spoiler alert: by the end they are united with their true loves: Tamino with Pamina, and Papageno with his Papagena (soprano Ilia Staple). In tonight's production Bertrand de Billy conducts the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
