Some bee species are quite discreet, leaving tiny holes in a leaf, nesting in a quiet corner of a sandbank, or spending all their time in the leafy canopies of trees. This week on Nature File, we explore the lives of some of Ireland's lesser-known wild bees.

Aedín marks the 65th birthday of a true classic and a much-loved favourite, Billy Wilder's Some Like it Hot! One of the greatest comedies in movie history, it remains as funny today as it was in 1959, with memorable performances from Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. Fantastic scores too from Witness, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Incredibles and Back to the Future and hit songs from High Society, Merrily We Roll Along, Moana and West Side Story.

The Metropolitan Opera New York presents Puccini's Madama Butterfly
Extraordinary soprano Asmik Grigorian (in her highly anticipated Met debut) tackles the demanding role of Cio-Cio-San, the loyal geisha at the heart of Puccini's devastating tragedy. Tenor Jonathan Tetelman stars as the callous American naval officer Pinkerton, whose betrayal destroys her. Mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong sings the role of the steadfast maid Suzuki, and baritone Lucas Meachem is the American consul Sharpless. Acclaimed maestro Xian Zhang makes her Met debut conducting the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus.

THE LYRIC FEATURE
Feather and Flock
Feather and Flock is a new six part series delving in to the ways of six iconic native Irish birds. Each episode combines ecology, folklore and history to uncover the incredible lives and journeys of these wild creatures. A key theme is conservation and we hear from those who are at the forefront in ensuring that these birds songs will continue into the future. Each programme is soundtracked with immersive on location recordings, avian themed folk and traditional music and an original composition from Brían MacGloinn.
Episode 2: Jay
Jays are colourful, vocal, and highly intelligent woodland birds. In this episode, ecologist Anja Murray and musician Brían Mac Gloinn meet ornithologist Seán Ronayne in an autumn woodland to listen to stories these birds' incredible capacity for mimicry. Jays' accolade of being among the smartest birds in the world is explained by Professor Comparative Cognition at the University of Cambridge, Nickola Clayton. Brían also sources some Catalan folk associations and a song that brings these stories to life.
