Bizet's Carmen
Bizet's searing drama about a free-spirited Gypsy and the soldier determined to win her. Mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili sings the title character, and tenor Piotr Beczala sings the role of the hot-blooded Don José. Soprano Vera-Lotte Boecker as Micaëla and bass Erwin Schrott as Escamillo round out the principal cast. The Vienna State Opera Orchestra and Chorus is conducted by Andres Orozco-Estrada.

THE FULL SCORE WITH LIZ NOLAN
Our concert today comes from the National String Quartet Foundation and features the Solas Quartet. Led by Irish Chamber Orchestra leader Katherine Hunka, they present a varied programme spanning five centuries and reflecting the wide-ranging musical talents and specialities of the quartet's members. They are joined by Cork violist Ed Creedon for Mendelssohn's brilliant B flat string quintet. Shirley Keane presents a showcase of unabridged musical masterworks, featuring live recordings of Irish and international performers, plus selections from the latest CD releases.
