A call-out to choirs!
RTÉ lyric fm is inviting choirs around the country to sing A Galway Blessing and send in your recording to Evelyn Grant's Weekend Drive when a selection of recordings will be chosen and shared on the programme on RTÉ lyric fm.
What is A Galway Blessing?
Elaine Agnew and Jessica Traynor have written a new community opera called Paper Boat. Included in the opera is this piece A Galway Blessing which is a setting of the famous tune The West's Awake set to new lyrics.
What opera is A Galway Blessing from?
A Galway Blessing is from Paper Boat an opera which was commissioned by Music for Galway and Galway 2020 in association with Irish National Opera. A full performance of the opera will take place on Saturday 23 April, 5pm in St Nicholas' Collegiate Church in Galway
Why learn and record A Galway Blessing?
We thought this would be a really nice piece to add to your choir's repertoire. With the much loved melody and new lyrics - we recommend you give it a sing through!
If you would like to send in your recording of A Galway Blessing - here are some guidelines:
- All choirs - school, college, amateur and semi-professional are welcome to enter!
- One audio recording/entry only per choir
- Attach an audio file/ MP3 recording to the email
- Attach a jpeg of the choir to the email - so we can see you all in action!
- Send us a short description of the choir and where you are from
- Email your entry to: firstname.lastname@example.org
**Please note a selection of entries will be played on Evelyn Grant's Weekend Drive Saturday (4-6.30pm) and Sunday (4-6pm). By entering you accept that not all choirs can be played on-air. But, Evelyn will share all the recordings sent into us on the Soundcloud page below.
