Cór an Chroí is the school competition choir for Loreto College Mullingar.
The choir was created in the school in January 2024 by Ms. Claire Gilmartin and Ms. Laura Cahill. The choir comprises over 40 members from all year groups, from first year right up to sixth year.
The name ‘Cór an Chroí’ (Choir of the heart) was chosen for the choir as the heart is one of four symbols within the Loreto School crest. To date, the choir has performed at school-based events and will make their debut performances with Mullingar Town Band and the Irish Midlands Youth Orchestra in December.
Cór an Chroí were delighted to be awarded first place at this year's Sligo Youth Choral Festival in the secondary school competition.
They also won the 2024 Choirs for Christmas Competition on RTÉ Lyric FM in the Secondary School Category with their performance of “Carol of the Bells.”
‘Glory, Glory, Glory to the Newborn King’ was recorded at the school chapel at Loreto College Mullingar.
