Story Notes
In 1919, Irish candidates who had been elected to Parliament in the United Kingdom decided not to sit in Westminster and instead assembled as ‘Dáil Éireann'.
The first Dáil met in the Mansion House on 21 January 1919 and it asserted the exclusive right of the elected representatives of the Irish people to legislate for the country.
This documentary examines the origins, establishment and achievements of the first parliament of the Irish Republic.
