In January 1926, the first radio station of the Irish Free State was launched. 2RN was set up by the then future President of Ireland, Dr Douglas Hyde.
In this documentary, the former Head of Drama at RTE, takes us back in time and remembers the first forty years of Irish radio.
We hear about from the people who worked work in radio throughout that time, the programmes that were made, the public’s perception and the changes that lead to the formation of what is now Raidió Teilifís Éireann.
This documentary was originally a three part programme, broadcast over three weeks on RTE Radio 1.
