Story Notes
The Three Mile Island accident was a partial nuclear meltdown which occurred at the Three Mile Island power plant in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States on March 28, 1979. It was the worst accident in U.S. commercial nuclear power plant history.
It resulted in the release of small amounts of radioactive gases and radioactive iodine into the environment.
This documentary tells of how differing versions of what had happened at the plant meant that many people were unaware of the dangers of the disaster, and how many workers were not even told of how an accident had occured.
The clean up operation started in August 1979 and officially ended in December 1993, with a total cleanup cost of about $1 billion.
