Also known as "The Betelguese Incident", "Disaster at Whiddy" is an insight into the tragic events which unfolded on Whiddy Island in the early hours of the of the morning on the 8th Jan 1979.
At approximately 1am, the "Betelguese" oil tanker explodedwith the resulting fire claiming the lives of 50 people. Only 27 bodies were recovered.
This documentary hears the first hand stories of those who were there on the night, and the mark that the disaster has left on the people of Cork.
