In February 1988, the Abbey Theatre (Ireland's National Theatre) went on a tour to Russia.

The plays took to Russia were 'The Field' by John. B Keane and 'The Great Hunger' by Tom MacIntyre.

Russia was a very different place in 1988. The actors met with the Irish ambassador, went to the Bolshoi Ballet, toured Moscows churches and all along the way, Seamus Hosey recorded their experience.
