Story Notes
Dray horses were bred for hard heavy tasks like pulling a heavy load. Into the 1900s, they were used for practical work pulling wagons or ploughing fields. The dray-men were part of Dublin street life delivering coal, and working the fruit and vegetable markets.
This documentary by Breandan Ó'Cíobháin looks at the uses of dray horses in Dublin transport and industry.
Produced and presented by Breandán Ó'Cíobháin
